Steve Scagnetti

If you need a report on production or distribution operations at the Vinyl Division of LP, Steve Scagnetti is your man. A desktop wizard, Steve is an accomplished user of spreadsheets as a vehicle to store and retrieve information to be presented in an effective manner to all management levels in the organization. Steve has long recognized that one of the most challenging and costly parts of the process is the collection and maintenance of the data to be reported. Often in the past, difficulties in accessing data from operational data bases necessitated the costly gathering and maintenance of data specifically for the purposes of information reporting. On top of all of the problems of redundancy is the fact that spreadsheet facilities are not designed for the effective collection and maintenance of data. Even in those cases where population of data from operational systems was implemented, any desired changes in such interfaces required development effort by the scarce resources of professional programmers.

WISL's QUIKREP allows Steve to generate export files directly from operational data bases without requiring the services of a professional programmer. With QUIKREP Steve can modify or add to the record layout of an export file in seconds. Export files may be generated or refreshed conveniently without involving IT staff. As well as generating export files, Steve has made extensive use of the facilities of QUIKREP to directly generate reports for endusers.

Steve began with the text version of QUIKREP and became a major contributor to the development of the GUI implementation(WISL QUIKREP/CS) which he now utilizes. Steve's significant contributions in the area of information reporting are even more impressive in light of the fact that most of his energies must be directed to his main responsibilities as Inventory Manager. If you think that this means Steve is just a computer nerd then you should be aware that he is the Player(pitcher)/Manager of the Kitchener Panthers, reigning champions of the Ontario Inter-County (Semi-Pro) Baseball League.
