INTRODUCTION

The WISL Telephone Order Generation (WISL TOG) is a group of computer programs that provides for the acceptance of store orders via telephone and the generation of the financial and shipping records and documents necessary to complete the transaction. WISL TOG has been designed to interface with multiple inventories to permit the inclusion of any stocked item in the transaction. A customer data base is also incorporated to provide access to address and other biographic information. Any device with the capability to connect to the system may be used as the workstation. A pick list is generated to serve as control over the assembling of the items in the order. Following the picking process the document may be utilized as input to point of sale and as the bill of lading and invoice for the customer. If not all items ordered are in stock a back-order may be established through the WISL TOG data entry routine and the document regenerated. If WISL BA is implemented then a credit card pre-authorization may be performed during the telephone discussion. If WATPOS is implemented then the detail of the sale transaction may be generated from the invoice record by invoking the desired invoice at the sku prompt.

IMPLEMENTATION CONSIDERATIONS

A certain amount of customization is required to interface specific inventory data bases to the generalized routines of WISL TOG. Further customization may be required if it is desired to interface an existing customer data base rather than the one incorporated in WISL TOG. It may also be desired to incorporate periodic batch updates of the customer data base from external sources. Development of such facilities would require some custom development.

WISL TOG may be implemented on any Open Systems(UNIX or NT) platform that supports the UniVerse data base management system. A schematic illustrating transaction flow and a point form scenario follows:
